Artist Statement

I can’t remember when I didn’t have a camera or didn’t want to explore the world around me through photography. For over forty years my passion for photography has managed to outlast the impulsiveness and short attention span in other parts of my life. Over time, my priorities have shifted from creating technically proficient, pretty pictures to creating meaningful art through photography.

"Moments"presents photographs in several styles and genres, striving to elicit emotional or thought-provoking reactions that cause the viewer to slow down and move through the work at something less than the lightning-swipe speed of Instagram.

William Banning is currently president of the Channel City Camera Club. He is an active member of the Santa Barbara Art Association and was recently accepted into the Santa Barbara's Abstract Art Collective.

In addition to his photographic pursuits, his 40-plus-year career in public education included teaching music, computer applications, and positions of administrative leadership. throughout Southern California. He retired after serving from 2012 to 2017 as the Superintendent of the Goleta Union School District. Since then, he has become fully engaged with his passion for creating art through photography.
